چکیده

We bosonize a Fermi liquid in any number of dimensions in the limit of long wavelengths. From the bosons we construct a set of coherent states which are related with the displacement of the Fermi surface due to particle-hole excitations. We show that an interacting hamiltonian in terms of the original fermions is quadratic in the bosons. We obtain a path integral representation for the generating functional which in real time, in the semiclassical limit, gives the Landau equation for sound waves and in the imaginary time gives us the correct form of the specific heat for a Fermi liquid even with the corrections due to the interactions between the fermions. We also discuss the similarities between our results and the physics of quantum crystals. PACS numbers: 05.30.Fk, 05.30.Jp, 11.10.Ef, 11.40.Fy, 71.27.+a, 71.45.-d Typeset using REVTEX 1

Multidimensional Bosonization

Bosonization of degenerate fermions yields insight both into Landau Fermi liquids, and into non-Fermi liquids. We begin our review with a pedagogical introduction to bosonization, emphasizing its applicability in spatial dimensions greater than one. After a brief historical overview, we present the essentials of the method. Well known results of Landau theory are recovered, demonstrating that t...

”quasi-particles” in bosonization theory of interacting fermion liquids at arbitrary dimensions

Within bosonization theory we introduce in this paper a new definition of ”quasi-particles” for interacting fermions at arbitrary space dimenions. In dimensions higher than one we show that the constructed quasi-particles are consistent with quasi-particle descriptions in Landau Fermi liquid theory whereas in one-dimension the ”quasi-particles” are non-perturbative objects (spinons and holons) ...

Bosonization of the low energy excitations of Fermi liquids.

We bosonize the low energy excitations of Fermi Liquids in any number of dimensions in the limit of long wavelengths. The bosons are coherent superposition of electron-hole pairs and are related with the displacements of the Fermi Surface in some arbitrary direction. A coherent-state path integral for the bosonized theory is derived and it is shown to represent histories of the shape of the Fer...

Finite temperature bosonization

Finite temperature properties of a non-Fermi liquid system is one of the most challenging probelms in current understanding of strongly correlated electron systems. The paradigmatic arena for studying non-Fermi liquids is in one dimension, where the concept of a Luttinger liquid has arisen. The existence of a critical point at zero temperature in one dimensional systems, and the fact that exper...

Bosonization and fermion liquids in dimensions greater than one.

We develop and describe new approaches to the problem of interacting Fermions in spatial dimensions greater than one. These approaches are based on generalizations of powerful tools previously applied to problems in one spatial dimension. We begin with a review of one-dimensional interacting Fermions. We then introduce a simplified model in two spatial dimensions to study the role that spin and...

We use a bosonization approach to show that the momentum distribution nk of normal Fermi systems with sufficiently singular interactions is analytic in the vicinity of the non-interacting Fermi surface. These include singular density-density interactions that diverge in d dimensions stronger than |q|−2(d−1) for vanishing momentum transfer q, but also fermions that are coupled to transverse gaug...
